| Wines of Italy - Piedmont | |||||
| Piedmont is Italy's western most region and borders Switzerland
and France at the Alps. Piedmont literally translates to foot of the mountain
Vineyards are planted on the hills not the plains and are harvested with
some of the lowest yields in Italy. Its wines can be likened to the wines
of Burgundy France.
The prominent red grapes varieties are: Nebbiolo(the grape of Barolo and Barbaresco), Barbera and Dolcetto (sweet little one).The prominent white grape varieties are Cortese ( Gavi) and Moscato that goes into Moscato di Asti. Along with Tuscany, Piedmont has the reputation of producing the finest wines in Italy. |
